LibreOffice Won’t Open

So this post is a little off track but I really wanted to share this because it is such an issue and has been for a long time now and LibreOffice doesn’t seem to be in any hurry to fix it. Listen, I love LibreOffice but only if it works. From what I have seen while looking around the web this issue has been a problem since about 2015.

The Issue:

LibreOffice fails to load. You will click on the icon, or start from terminal and you get a splash screen and then nothing.

The Fix:

(Based on our Parrot Security Debian OS)
Uninstall LibreOffice and install OpenOffice by Apache.

Easy “How-To” Install Apache OpenOffice:

  • Be sure to uninstall all of LibreOffice first
  • Download the Debian installation package which comes in a tarball at the time of this post
  • Inside you will have a ton of files and a directory that has a single Debian package
  • open a terminal from inside the directory with all the packages
  • issue this terminal command: sudo dpkg -i *.deb
  • This will begin the installation of all the packages and their dependency packages
  • Once this is complete you will need to then cd to the desktop-integration directory to install the menu icons and shortcuts as the final installation package

Now if you look into your Office menu folder you will see all your OpenOffice icons ready to use.
