New BBS Network

I am setting up a new BBS soon but this requires me setting up a server first. It is my hopes to eventually make this a nice little BBS network. If interested please send me a contact.

You will notice a new menu item to the top right of the page now just for BBS stuff. It doesn't matter if you are an old hand with BBS or new to the entire thing come check it out, you will love it.

I may even connect an IRC network to the BBS network later on...

Getting ready for the Big Hack

So you are ready for your big hack. You did your research and social engineering, picked out your method of attack, and you think you are ready to go. One thing a lot of people just starting out forget all about it how to cloak themselves. Sure, you can use a Proxy, setup a VPN, and perform your work from a remote location, NOT YOUR HOME. However, there is one other identifiable item you can affect for that little extra bit of cloaking. What might that be you may ask? Changing your mac address on your card of choice that will initiate the attack.

Ok, so those of you with any networking or hardware experience I can almost hear you arguing with this statement already about how you can’t change what’s burned into the hardware. Well, true you can’t do that but you can fake it by reporting a different one and with your Parrot Security LINUX it is very easy to do. You do this with a simply and very easy to use little program called “Mac Changer”. This can be invoked from anywhere within your terminal and yes you need to sudo to make this all work properly. You also need to do a couple of things for it to work which I will go over here.

First of all let’s take a look at macchanger help and see what options we have available in this terminal screenshot. To get to the help for this program open a terminal, then type macchanger –help. This is what you will see…

Now as you can see you have a few different options you can use with this application and all of them are pretty straight forward and easy to use. Just in case it confuses you a bit I will also give you an example of the syntax you will need to use but first we need to prepare the wifi card to use this.

Before we can change anything on a wifi card, whether it is the power, country, or mac address, you have to bring the wifi card down first. We will do this by typing this into the terminal:

sudo ifconfig wlan0 down

Now, of course, you will replace wlan0 with your selected wifi card whether it is wlan0, wlan1, or wlan2. This will basically turn your wifi card off to explain this most simply. Now that the card is down, we need to use macchanger to effect our wifi card’s mac address. We will use the quickest method for example and the sake of simplicity of this tutorial. Let’s suppose we want to just change it to a random mac address very quickly. We would invoke this function of macchanger like this: sudo macchanger -r wlan0

It will then show you what your current mac address is and what is has been changed to report. Once this is done we need to bring the wifi card back up so we can actually use it with our chosen method of attack quickly and easily with this command: sudo ifconfig wlan0 up

Next you can then perform whatever additional options to your wifi card as needed ot just go straight to your hack. Once you are done with the hack you will want to change your mac address back to the original. Now just as we went over in earlier you will first need to bring the wifi card down with the command sudo ifconfig wlan0 down. Once that is done you need to issue the command sudo macchanger -p wlan0. This will reset the wifi card mac address back to it’s original address. Then simply bring your card back up with sudo ifconfig wlan0 up. Hope that helps and like always if you have any comments, questions, or suggestions please feel free to leave a comment below.

TIP: After using your selected method your card may remain in monitor mode. You can check this with iwconfig or ifconfig. If you see that the card is still in monitor mode you can easily return it to managed mode using sudo airmon-ng stop and the name of the wifi card in monitor mode. It may be something like mon0 or wlan0mon. An example of the proper syntax would be: sudo airmon-ng stop mon0 or sudo airmon-ng stop wlan0mon. This is a function of the aircrack application.
